Have you been at the Cazadores Inline Hockey Rink this weekend?

In years to come players and spectators alike will remember the weekend of July17 2009 as a big success.  The Spes Bona Fiat Alfa Tournament was third of five Namibian inline-hockey tournaments for the year, and it was conducted over a marathon five-days.  A total of 85 games were played, with 45 teams (including the Wildcats from South Africa) challenging each other for pride and medals in the 10 divisions.  Games on Wednesday and Thursday evening were played in near-freezing conditions, inducing spectators to huddle closely together with warm Glühwein in their hands.  Friday evening, brought the arrival of the out-of-town teams from Swakopmund, Otjiwarango, and the Wildcats from South Africa, as well as warming weather conditions.   The weekend also brought some heated and intense inline hockey, as 60 games were played from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.

The competition was tough, and large numbers of spectators were exposed to superb and exciting play.

However, when the last game ended and the dust had cleared, the Coastal Pirates once again showed their dominance in this sport.

Coastal Pirates took home 10 medals, including: 3 gold, 6 silver, and 1 bronze

Cazadores managed to edge ahead of the Badgers by 1 medal, taking a total of 7 medals: 2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze

Badgers took 6 medals, displaying particular strengths in the Women’s classes: 2 gold and 4 bronze

Scorpions took 5 medals back to Otjiwarongo: 2 gold and 3 bronze

Kamikaze edged into the medals with the combined team “Old Crocks’ taking gold in the masters division and silver with their 8 and under team.

Altogether the five clubs and the invitation team ‘Wild Cats’ from South Africa scored 440 goals over the tournament.

It was great weekend entertainment for families and friends, as all joined in the competitive spirit of the games while feeding strong appetites.  Players and spectators took down some 300 steak rolls, even more ‘hot dogs’, and countless portions of chilli con carne, gyros and cottage pie.

Inline-hockey has become one of Namibia’s fastest growing sports, as children from 6 years old to adults at the Master level are increasingly becoming addicted to the sport.  It’s great family fun, while also being great entertainment for friends.  The next inline tournament will be held in Swakopmund from August 26-30 2009.  So if you or your acquaintances want to see how this fast-moving sport is played, come join us for the fun.

Spes Bona Fiat Alfa -Day 2: 20 down - 65 to go

Day two of the Spes Bona Fiat Alfa Inline Hockey Tournament was started with a game in the 12 and under division, as the Cazadores team faced Kamikaze. The first period saw the hosting team with a slim 2:1 lead. However, before the final whistle, a resilient Cazadores showed their dominance on the rink by adding three more goals to one additional Kamikaze goal, producing a Cazadores 5:2 victory.

In the 16 and under division the Badgers fired a cavalcade of some 34 shots on the Kamikaze goal. The Kamikaze goalie, Rudolf Heinrich Meyer, saved 30 of these shots, only allowing 4 goals to slip behind the goalie line.  Despite Meyer’s strong performance, the Badgers prevailed in a 4:1 victory.

In the game between Badgers and Kamikaze in the 12 and under age group Nikola Kuhn scored two unassisted goals in the first half, and a third goal in the second half. Although Kamikaze managed to add a goal on the scoreboard, the Badgers increased their lead by 4 more goals in the second half, producing an impressive 6:1 win.

In the 10 and under division Badgers faced Cazadores for an interesting contest, with a half time score of 2:1 in favour of the Badgers. Cazadores added another goal in the second period, but were defeated by a convincing 4:2 final score.

Finally in the 14 and under division Badgers gave up their string of victories to a hungry Cazadores team. Although the pressure on both goals was immense, it was Cazadores that took away the win with a slim 3:2 score.

With the sun down, the temperature dropped and a light wind produced a chill in the crowd. However, two puck-hungry Open teams entered the arena, sending the court temperature rising in an exciting and tightly fought contest. The half-time score of 1 all was a good reflection of an evenly matched game, which the hosting team managed to turn their way when Dominic Denker snuck in the game’s final goal producing a 3:2 final score in favour of the Cazadores.

The Under 14 contest between the Badgers and the Kamikaze produced one of the best personal achievements of the tournament so far.  Frank Schneidenberger scored a total of four goals during the game, while producing a hat-trick in the first half when he scored three consecutive goals.  The Badgers prevailed easily in what was the most dominating performance of the evening, winning by 6:0.

The second to last game of the evening pitted the Kamikaze ladies against the Cazadores ladies team.  This game proved to be a tight defensive struggle.  Though Cazadores put immense pressure on the Kamikaze throughout the game, the Kamikaze goalie, Carola Koch, managed to save all 23 shots by the Cazadores on the goal.  The 0:0 deadlock was finally broken late in the second half when Kamikaze’s  Olga Grosse-Weischede shot in the only goal of the game, giving Kamikaze a 1:0 victory.

The final game of the night paired two evenly matched Open teams from the Badgers and Kamikaze in an exciting battle whose outcome was uncertain until the final second fled the clock.  Ultimately, the Badgers prevailed 3:2, though the Kamikaze never gave up.

A total of nine games were played during day two of the Spes Bona Fiat Alfa Tournament, with a tough Badgers squad taking five victories while the Cazadores battled their way to three wins and Kamikaze gained one. For a updated results sheet please click here.

Play for Day three of the tournament will commence at 16h15 this afternoon (Friday), when the visiting Swakopmund Coastal Pirates, Otjiwarongo Scorpions and South African Wildcats arrive to participate in the remaining 65 games of this weekend’s tournament.  People are invited to come join us for these exciting games, good food and drink over the next three days.

Day 1 of the Spes Bona Fiat Alfa Tournament 2009 gets off to a brisk start

12&Under Badgers-Cazadores 2009The Spes Bona Fiat Alfa Inline Hockey Tournament began on Wednesday afternoon as the puck was dropped punctually at 16h00 to an evenly matched game between the Kamikaze and Badgers in the 8 & under division.  The close 1:0 game in favour of the Kamikaze was a fitting start to what will be five continuous days of exciting inline hockey at the Cazadores rink.  This first match-up was followed by 10 additional games during a brisk evening of play between the three Windhoek-based inline hockey clubs.

Game two also proved to be a close contest, with the Badgers Under 12 team edging the host Cazadores 5:4.  In the 16 & under division the Badgers started their game against the Cazadores by scoring three unanswered goals in the first half, ultimately prevailing by a score of 6:2.

In the older age groups, the Cazadores Under 18 team put on a strong display of hockey, convincingly beating the Badgers 8:0 in a game shortened by the mercy rule.  Other dominating performances were provided by the Cazadores 14 & Under team which defeated Kamikaze 8:0 in another mercy rule game, and by the Ladies Badger team who beat the Cazadores 4:0.

A number of other games were more closely contested, including good performances by both teams in the Masters game won by the Old Crocks over Badgers 1:0, the Cazadores Under 16 Team victory over the Badgers 4:3, the Cazadores Open Team victory over the Badgers 4:3, while in the 10 & under division the hosting team Cazadores scored two goals in the second half giving them a victory over the Kamikaze team of 2:0.

The overall team wins for the evening were fairly balanced between the Cazadores and the Badgers, with Cazadores winning five of their games and the Badgers taking four.  The evening proved to be both brisk and enjoyable, as the dropping temperatures provided correspondingly increased demands for ‘Glühwein’.  Over the next four days a total of 74 more games will be played in the tournament, providing lots of good hockey and crowd entertainment.  Spectators are greatly appreciated and will be able to obtain warm meals and good company throughout this fun time – so please join us on Thursday and Friday evening and all day and evening on Saturday and Sunday!

Spes Bona Fiat Alfa – Cazadores Tournament 2009

The longest name for a Namibian Inline Hockey tournament so far – will it live up to expectations?

With our coldest front for the season moving through now, the stage is set perfectly for a powerful package of inline hockey in a brisk, energetic environment. A total of 85 games will be played during the tournament, with 20 pre-round games between the Windhoek clubs starting on Wednesday and Thursday before the official tournament opening on Friday 17th July 2009.

The speed of a hockey player is measured at around 20 km/h. During a game, the average passing speed of the puck from player to player varies from 48 to 96 km/h, based upon the pass distance and the opposing players in the way. The average Open player will clock between 130-140km/h on a slap shot, with a few extraordinary players being able to crack 190kmh.  As a passing and movement game of speed and skill, whoever controls the puck controls the game.

So, when our teams move onto the rink – battle dress geared up and adrenalin pumping - the stage is set for the team with the better strategy. As the Namibia Ice and Inline Hockey Association has moved over to the FIRS (Federation for International Roller Sports) playing rules in 2009, this is a transition year and time of adjustment. Under IIHF rule a player was not allowed to pass a puck directly over the centre line – hence with the change to FIRS rules, the game has become faster and the defence is under more pressure.  Thus, the game is now even more exciting and allows our players to showcase their offensive skills. The tournament sponsor, ‘Spes Bona Fiat Alfa’, has medals ready to be handed over after the last game is played for the best three teams in every age division.

Behind the scenes, the court has been cleaned for the tournament to come, spectator stands have been overhauled, the ‘Glühwein’ is prepared, game meat has found it’s way to Klein Windhoek Schlachterei to be worked into delicious meals for players and spectators alike.

Everything is ready to welcome the competing clubs and our spectators to showcase some excellent hockey, visit with old friends, make new ones too, and have fun.

Action for the official tournament starts on Friday afternoon in the 10 and under division at 16h15, followed by games in the 14 and under, 8 and under as well as 12 and under divisions, before the tournament is officially opened at 18h00 with the Open game between the hosting team Cazadores and the visiting team from Otjiwarongo Scorpions. Games will carry on from early mornings until late every day during the tournament.

Good hockey, delicious food and good company are organized… see you there!

Scorpions 2009: Inline Hockey not a sport for 'sissies' I have been told...

Open Badgers/Coastal Pirates With sixteen games being played at the Kamikaze rink in Windhoek players were in full motion already before the main part of the tournament commenced in Otjiwarongo on Friday afternoon.

With the remaining 64 games stretched over the weekend our teams displayed some good hockey.

Overall the dominating Coastal Pirates managed to stay ahead of the competition by winning the gold medal in seven of the ten categories.

The Cazadores 10 and Under as well as 12 and under carried on their good results by winning the bronze and silver medals respectively. The 14&Under team gave up the silver medal to Scorpions after tying due to the goal differential.

In the 16& under division Cazadores maintained the overall bonze medal for the second tournament.

A steady 18& under team dominated by winning all their games giving up 3 goals only whilst scoring 13 times on the competition. Our ladies team managed to sneak one rank up and are now in pursuit of the bronze medal.

In a very competitive open division the results were interestingly mixed. While Coastal Pirates won all their games, Cazadores managed to win their games against Kamikaze and Badgers, but then losing to the hosting scorpions team in a vigorously battled game on Friday night. The game between Badgers and Kamikaze ended in a draw and both teams beat Scorpions.

The combined Master team Cazadores/Kamikaze won the silver medal by winning two of their three games.

Once again the Scorpions tournament was a lot of fun with nice atmosphere and good food. Click here for tournament results.

Inter-Conti Cup 2008:

Brazil A takes home gold in both categories

If not for the Brazilian Flag and the yellow/blue battle wear of the visiting teams, the atmosphere at Friday and Saturday’s Inter-Conti Cup 2008 could have reminded the spectators of Namibia’s five annual national inline hockey tournaments.  Only on this weekend, the stakes were higher and the atmosphere more tense, as two Brazil national and six Namibian teams (one National, one Federation, and four clubs) suited up to battle for the group trophy.

The host, Coastal Pirates, fielded a solid team – a team that prevented all other Namibian teams from coming within grasp of the Cup’s unique elephant medals. The Coastal Pirates tough defence only allowed the puck to be snuck past the goalie twice during Friday and Saturday’s round robin play, while scoring 24 times on their fellow opponents.  This impressive record was topped only by the visiting Brazil A team, who scored 33 times, while only giving up two goals in their final round robin game against Cazadores A.

The round robin results generated some interesting match-ups with Brazil A being pitted against Cazadores B, while Brazil B lined up to compete against Cazadores A. The remaining two games paired the Capitals team with the Scorpions, while team injuries forced Windhoek City to forfeit, allowing Coastal Pirates to automatically advance to the semi-finals.

Full spectator ranks on Saturday night saw the first round of the International division when the National Namibian squad showed their metal in a well fought game against Brazil B. Both teams tried to display their dominance on the rink until eight minutes into the first half Michael Falk scored the first goal for Namibia. Shortly thereafter, Timo Giersch, assisted by Oliver Lohmeier, added a second goal to give Namibia a 2:0 halftime lead. After the break team Namibia added three more unanswered goals. Two goals by Cello Baas, assisted by Oliver Lohmeier and Zaid Ely respectively, while Arne Rodenwoldt scoring on a pass from Michael Falk, gave  the Namibian National Team a clear victory with the final score of 5:0.

Brazil - Cazadores

The second game on Saturday evening had Brazil A matched against Namibia B. Although it took the guests five minutes to score,  the Brazilians’ constant intense pressure on Namibia took its toll, producing  four additional, unanswered goals before the Kamikaze duo of Stefan Ihms and Michael Hanke managed to score the only goal of the match for Team Namibia B with four minutes remaining on the clock for the first half. The Brazilian National Team proved to be too strong for our young Namibian second squad, winning decisively with a final score of 10:1.

During the semi-final round of the group A & B play, Brazil A breezed by an overmatched Capitals team, while the Coastal Pirates played a tough match against Brazil B. The Coastal Pirates dominated the first half, taking a 4:0 lead in convincing fashion.  The Pirates opened the second half with a quick goal by Michael Ellinger (assisted by Oliver Lohmeier), taking a 5:0 lead. However, Brazil B then came back strongly and quickly, scoring three goals in succession, rapidly changing the complexion of the game from a rout to a physical 5:3 battle.  The Pirates held on for a hard-fought victory, with the final score remaining 5:3 in the Pirates’ favour.

Brazil A and the Coastal Pirates, as the winners of the semi-finals, advanced to the finals of the group tournament for gold medal play.  Brazil A came out strongly and took a 3:0 lead into the halftime break.   Coastal Pirates began the second half with spirit and focus, scoring the first two goals of the half and closing the gap to 3:2.  For a brief moment it appeared that Team Namibia had changed the momentum of the game and was ready to tie the game.  Both teams competed eagerly for the puck – but it was the Brazilian team that managed to add another goal halfway through the final period, breaking Namibia’s momentum and leading to a final score of 5:2 in the Brazilian’s favour.

Shortly after lunch Namibia B skated onto the rink to meet Brazil B as part of the Inter-Conti Cup competition. This game had a ‘revived’ 2nd Namibian squad display their best hockey of the tournament.  Although both teams put vehement pressure on the opponents’ defences, it was Brazil B who put the puck into the Namibian net at 14:02 of the first half.  Another goal followed in favour of the visitors at 11:52 to give them the halftime lead of 2:0. Finally in the second half the Namibian squad was rewarded with a goal when Festus van der Westhuizen passed to Gunnar Barth who scored. Brazil B added two more goals for the game.     The final score of 4:1 in favour of Brazil B shows a clear Brazil victory, but credit should also be given to our Namibia B team for their high quality of play and the immense pressure they were able to place on the Brazilians for the duration of the game.

The final game for the weekend was the match Brazil A against Namibia A – it took Brazil only seconds to surprise the Namibian defence with a goal. Another goal followed several long minutes later – but, again for Team Brazil. Namibia countered with two goals.  The first by Marco Debortoli, assisted by Arne Rodenwoldt, and the second by Michael Ellinger, also assisted by Arne Rodenwoldt.    During the tightly fought first half Brazil scored twice more, while Namibia added its third goal, bringing the halftime score to 4:3 in Brazil’s favour. Both teams opened the second half in a defensive stand-off 5 long minutes until Brazil scored three goals in succession by  Petro Duarte, Felipe Geraldini, and another by Petro Duarte. Team Namibia scored its final goal, with an unassisted goal by Zaid Ely, but it was too little too late. Brazil added two more goals before the final whistle, giving them the well-deserved 9:4 win and the overall victory and the 1st Place in the Inter-Conti Cup 2008. click here for results.

Inter-Conti Cup 2008:

Brazil the first International Inline Hockey team to attend

Following Namibia’s 2007 participation in the VII South American Championships in Sao Paulo, the Namibia Ice and Inline Hockey Associations (NIIHA) decided to increase Namibia participation in international Inline Hockey events.  This weekend’s (December 12-14) Inter-Conti Cup 2008 will be the first International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) International Inline Hockey Tournament to be hosted in Africa.  The Inter-Conti Cup 2008 will showcase local Namibian talent against Brazil – arguably the southern hemisphere’s strongest inline hockey country.

Two Brazilian Inline hockey teams have followed our invitation and arrived in Windhoek on Monday to start their Namibia experience with the well-organized fun event, the “Summer Salsa Tournament”, at the Kamikaze rink.

Jose Guilardi –a member of the Brazilian squad attending the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships 2005 in Kuopio – showed the Windhoek teams that he is a force to be reckoned with. Next to his teammate Pedro Duarte, he was one of the five players to be awarded to the ‘All Star Team’ during the Summer Salsa Tournament. Namibian players selected into the ‘All Star Team’ include: Ivan Tchekashkine, Michael Hanke and goalie Glen Brown. The Brazilian defender was rated as the best Brazilian defence scorer during this year’s IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships in Slovakia, where his team won the bronze medal in Division I.

Teammates of Jose and Petro, Andre Branco as well as Caio Petito, have also competed against the Namibian squad in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Most of the other Brazilian players have yet to participate in a World Championship, but are using the Inter-Conti Cup 2008 to gain their first international experience.

The Namibian National squad is composed largely of seasoned players who have participated in IIHF world championships.   Quintin Kotze is captain, while Marco Debortoli and Michael Ellinger are assistant captains.  All three players attended the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships 2005 in Kuopio. Goalies for the Namibian National team include Erik Rodenwoldt and Oliver Tors. Our Team Namibia, however, will be weakened by the absence of strong players (Riyaan Ely and Basti Faber) who have been recruited to play professional Inline Hockey in Spain.

In preparation for the Inter-Conti Cup Namibia ran trials during the first weekend in December to give players an opportunity to compete for spots on the federation team. Captain of the Namibian Federation team is Matthew Jackman, with Michael Hanke and Ivan Tchekashkine as assistant captains. Goalies for the Federation team are: Stephen Heinz and Jens Rust.

Brazilian Salsa – too hot for local talent?

Following a one hour delay, the Summer Salsa Tournament in Windhoek finally started with a match between Brazil I and Cazadores II. A nervous local defender tried to keep the opponent at bay – but the defences loosened their focus and the first goal was scored.

Although Cazadores II gave the Brazilians a good fight the final score on the board showed a clear winner in Brazil I scoring four goals in their first game and their defence not allowing any counters.

With only 10 minutes per half-time, final scores were kept in the one-digit tally and Brazil II had tough battles against Kamikaze as well as Cazadores I, while Brazil I was matched against Cazadores II and the Badgers.

After the round robin session, neither Brazilian team had lost a game and were set against the runner up of the opposite groups. Kamikaze, in their game against the third placed in group A, managed to edge ahead by one goal to give them the lead in their match against Badgers winning by a final score of 3:2.  Brazil I won solidly against Cazadores I in a well-played game having a final score of 3:0. Brazil II managed to put the puck neatly into the Badgers net giving them a tightly fought win at 1:0.

In the final match of the evening, both Brazilian teams played hockey of high international standards, putting on a clinic for the remaining fans at the Kamikaze rink. The game went into overtime, with Brazil I scoring the golden goal, giving them the overall 1st place for this fun tournament.

Votes for most valuable player were tallied up in favour of Ivan Tchekashkine (Cazadores I), Michael Hanke (Kamikaze), Petro Duarte and Jose Guilardi (Brazil I) and the goalie, Glen Brown from Cazadores II, for the fun tournament in Windhoek.

Brazilian Salsa in the Air – Inline Hockey Picking up Momentum

While the Brazilian teams are getting ready for their trip to Namibia the Windhoek clubs are putting finishing touches to their team preparations. Although the regular inline hockey season has ended the open teams are in full gear, putting their teams together to field the best players and find the ultimate lines for the fun tournament in Windhoek (please click here for schedule) which at the same time is preparation for the big event: The Inter-Conti Cup 2008!

The Federation team has scheduled a training camp for the coming weekend to allow students to find and fill their respective roles on the team. Players from Otjiwarongo as well as Swakopmund will travel to Windhoek to attend the training camp under the Argus eyes of coaches Marc Pattmann and Nadia Schmidt.

Players on the Namibian National team will go through the motions in Swakopmund.

While the players are sweating it out on the rink our supporters in the five Namibian clubs are drumming up the ultimate food selection and fielding teams to take up their positions at food and beverage stalls.

Brazilian Salsa to heat up the already sizzling Windhoek Air

On December 8th 2008 two Brazilian national Inline Hockey squads will touch down at Hosea Kutako.

The Brazilian players are no newcomers to the international Inline hockey circuit. Almost every year during Namibia’s participation at the IIHF World Championships team Namibia had the pleasure of being set off against these warriors.

The first encounter in Kuopio, in 2005 - with a young Namibian squad and Erik Rodenwoldt defending our goal. Names like Jose Guilardi, Bruno Gomes and Diego Araujo are well remembered when Brazil managed to win the game 7:3.

In July 2006 Arne Rodenwoldt scored the only goal for our team against Brazil giving the final result of Brazil 7 – Namibia 1.

In 2007 Team Brazil managed to take the gold medal in Division I category while both teams from Africa were relegated. Still in 2007 a Namibian federation team followed the invitation of Brazil hosting the VII South American Championships. The Namibian team managed to stay undefeated during the Championships in Brazil and beat Team Brazil A convincingly 5-1.

2008 and Namibia has stepped up to the challenge and an invitation was sent out for the Inter Continental Cup scheduled for December 12-14 2008 in Swakopmund.

All three Windhoek clubs are fielding players in the open division. A fun tournament is organized on December 8th 2008 to give the players a first glimpse of what lies ahead for them the following weekend.

The Fun Tournament will be held at the Kamikaze rink with Badgers, Cazadores and Kamikaze in co-operation hosting the event. Food and refreshments will be available from 17h30 onwards.

All preparations are in progress to give our visitors a ‘sizzling’ reception and showcase our metropolis as a worthy competitor for a good summer event!

2008 To Start With Coach from Canada

At the end of 2007 the stage was set for Josh Blair - twin brother to the NIIHA head coach from Canada, Nate Blair - to push the Cazadores InLine Hockey Club to new heights. Josh arrived on Wednesday 16 January 2008 and the season has started for the eager Cazadores players on Monday.

With a big development effort motivated by NIIHA three teams will have the opportunity to attend international events in 2008. It is planned to attend the FIRS Ladies World Championships to be held in Düsseldorf, 14U Olympics in Feasterville, USA as well as the FIRS Junior World Championships schedule for June/July at the same venue.

The second set of trials for the contestants for the 14U National team as well as the Junior National Team will be held this weekend in Swakopmund.

After Team Namibia competed in the InLine World Championships 2005 in Kuopio/Finland this year and bringing home the prestigious Fair Play Trophy and an automatic qualification for 2006 in Hungary the InLine Hockey membership can be proud of their players this year.

The trials for 2006 will be held in October and December this year and will hopefully help prepare our players for a good year in 2006.

Schedule for 2005 InLine Hockey Championship Announced

The official schedule for the 2005 IIHF World InLine Hockey Championship has been announced. Overall, 16 teams will travel to Finland to take part in the event. The championship will be split into two groups, a Top Division, with the top eight teams in the world, and a Division I level with the next eight best teams.

At the end of the championship, two sets of medals will be awarded for both the Top Division and Division I to the top three finishers.

2005 World Championship to be hosted by Kuopio, Finland

For the first time ever, Finland will host the IIHF World InLine Hockey Championship. The annual event will be held in the northern city of Kuopio from July 9-16.

Two arenas will host the 16 participating nations. Niirala Main Arena will be the primary venue and has a capacity of 5,000, while Kuopio-halli will be the second venue with a capacity of 2,300. Finland is the defending silver medallist of the InLine Hockey World Championship after USA captured the gold last year.

Kuopio is approximately 350 km north of Helsinki and is a first-time host of any IIHF World Championship event.

Germany has hosted the IIHF InLine Hockey World championship for the last three years. It was in Germany that the current format, with 16 teams, was adopted. The same format will be used at this year's championship.

The 16 teams will be split into a Top Division and a Division I group. The top eight teams will be split into two groups of four for a round robin, while the same will happen in the Division I level. The two last-place teams from the top division round robin and the two first place teams from the Division I round robin will play a qualification game for the right to move, or stay, among the best eight teams.

After the qualification game, there will be a playoff in each group to determine the medallists at each level. Since the new format was adopted, no Division I team has earned the right to play among the top eight teams, however, the gap has been closing between the two levels.

The medal games will be played on July 16. A complete schedule will be announced at a later date.
